Bliss

I get lots of emails from all over--friends, former coworkers, relatives, neighbors and the usual spam. This morning I read a short, simple message, emailed by a beautiful friend and neighbor, that really puts things in their proper perspective, so I'm sharing it here:

Anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that they have been robbed.

The fact is that most putts don't drop, most beef is tough, most children grow up to be just people, most successful marriages required a high degree of mutual toleration, most jobs are more often dull than otherwise.

Life is like an old-time rail journey ... delays, side tracks, smoke, dust, cinders and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride.

Amen!

(This sunset happened on Mother's Day -- a beautiful gift, don't you think?)

Aw thanks... it needed a summer facelift!

Oh guess what? You and I have inspired one of my good friends to finally start her own blog. She loves West Texas and the Hill Country, and I've sent her links to your blogs several times. She only has one post now, but you'll have to check her out: http://hillcountrytexashills.blogspot.com/
